“Foundations for the practice of Cost Estimating and Analysis.”

From Module 7: Learning Curve Analysis

Interactive, Computer-Based Modules . . .

The Cost Estimating Body of Knowledge (CEBoK™) is SCEA's official training course material, conveniently available in CD-ROM. CEBoK™ expands on the foundation set by its predecessor product, CostPROF™, offering enhanced content and new topics. It is a user-friendly cost estimating and analysis training resource, with information organized into 16 interactive modules within five general subject areas, designed to cover all of the topics that represent the body of knowledge that SCEA promotes and tests for in the CCEA exam. The modules are designed to facilitate self-study and study in small groups, or can be used effectively in a classroom environment.

Example2

In Microsoft PowerPoint Notes Pages format (slide on top half, notes on bottom), the notes explain the bullets, equations, charts, graphs or other features on each slide. In Slide View format, each module contains links to other modules for quick review of past topics or exploration of related topics, as well as interactive links to a glossary and Student Workbook (in Excel format), wherein the learner can automatically tie into an associated practice problem for instant feedback and reinforcement. Other features of benefit to the student are Callouts (to call attention to important details), Banner Boxes (to make a main point on a slide), Tips (helpful insights gained from experience), Warnings (cautions against common errors),

Excel-specific tips,Definitions and Alternate Terms, and Citations (the source of specific material). Each module concludes with a Summary and a listing of associated Resources for further study, and several modules contain treatment of Advanced Topics that go beyond the core material of the module.

Whether you're just entering the Cost Estimating/Analysis profession, are planning to take the Certified Cost Estimator/Analyst (CCEA) exam or are simply looking to upgrade your skills, the CEBoK™ CD-ROM is a "must have" addition to your reference library.

The Most Comprehensive Material . . .

The 16 modules, separated into five general subject matter areas, are designed to cover all of the topics that represent the body of knowledge that SCEA promotes. Mastery of this body of knowledge demonstrates one’s expertise as a fully-qualified estimator or analyst, a designation that can be confirmed by taking and passing the CCEA exam.

Whether you are a seasoned analyst looking to refresh your skills and/or take the Certified Cost Estimator/ Analyst examination or an intern, newly introduced to the field of cost estimating and analysis, the CEBOK™ modules are intended to provide you with the one concise and all-inclusive collection of study materials that will help you attain your professional education goals.

Classroom Training Using CEBok Materials . . .

If you are looking for a cost-effective method for providing instruction to larger groups of people within your organization, SCEA can provide on-site training, using pre-qualified, SCEA-approved instructors who have the requisite depth and breadth of knowledge and are also expert teachers in the field.  This option allows the material to be customized to the specific needs and interests of the organization and touches a large portion of the workforce at once, thereby promoting standardization of skills and knowledge base across the organization.  SCEA will provide the required instructors at the organization's facility and a CD-ROM for each student.  Prices are negotiable, based on the number of people to be trained, the location(s), and the amount of tailoring required.  For further information on in-house training options, contact either the SCEA Director of Body of Knowledge, Peter Braxton, at 571-366-1431 or email at pbraxton@technomics.net or the SCEA Training Chair, Kevin Cincotta, at 571-366-1449 or email at kcincotta@technomics.net.

Many SCEA Chapters also maintain a schedule of training seminars based on CEBoK™ materials.  Contact your local SCEA Chapter President or visit the chapter section of the SCEA web site for further information on seminar offerings in your area.

ANY ORGANIZATION OR INDIVIDUAL PLANNING TO USE CEBoK MATERIAL FOR REVENUE-BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED TO ACQUIRE AN “INSTRUCTIONAL LICENSE” AVAILABLE FROM THE SCEA NATIONAL OFFICE.  THE TRAINER WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY SCEA AN INSTRUCTIONAL LICENSE FEE OF $20 PER STUDENT PER DAY OF TRAINING FOR USE OF SCEA’S PROPRIETARY MATERIAL, AND MUST COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENT THAT ALL ATTENDEES AT CEBOK TRAINING SESSIONS BE COVERED BY AN INDIVIDUAL OR ENTERPRISE CEBOK LICENSE.

If you are planning on conducting classroom training (and you have already purchased a site license permitting your students to have access to the material), contact the Joint Office at scea@sceaonline.org if you plan on printing hard copies of any CEBoK material.  SCEA will grant print permission on a case-by-case basis.
